About the event

The Special Education Parent Advisory Committee is a parent-driven group that advises a school district on special education programs and services. These committees provide a platform for parents of children with disabilities to voice concerns, offer input on policy and program decisions, and work with school leadership to improve outcomes for students. SEPACs are often required by state law and represent families across the entire school district, not just one school.

Key functions of a SEPAC:

  • Advocacy: Advocating for high-quality special education programs and services for students with disabilities.

  • Input and guidance: Providing direct input to the school district on current issues, program development, and student needs.

  • Communication: Facilitating communication and understanding between families, schools, and the community.

  • Parental involvement: Encouraging and increasing opportunities for parent involvement and training.
